By now, you've used your glue gun for plenty of crafting projects. But did you know your glue gun can even help you ward off bothersome bumblebees, creeping worms, munching rabbits, and other garden nuisances? "Wow," you are saying to yourself. "How can my glue gun do all that?" Magic, of course!
Every good gardener knows a garden takes a lot of tender loving care. But no mere mortal can watch their garden all the time. That's why Glue Gun Crafts' latest project is the ultimate garden guardian a.k.a The Flower Fairy.
These whimsical creatures are the perfect garden gatekeepers and can be easily constructed with a glue gun and just a few other supplies.
You'll need:
- a wood clothespin
- wood doll stand
- wood doll heads
- craft spool ½ inch
- craft spool 3/8 inch
- craft beads (8 millimeter)
- crafts beads (oval 9/16 inch)
- fabric flower
- doll hair
- pipe cleaner
- acrylic paint and brush
- glue gun and hot glue
- scissors or wire cutters
To begin, paint a clothespin, doll head, two oval beads (or four ½ inch spools), two millimeter beads and one ½ spool with flesh-colored paint. Let the doll body dry completely before you use your glue gun to begin fashioning a festive flower gown.
Now, use your glue gun to attach the spool to the top of the clothespin. A cordless glue gun is especially helpful when gluing the doll head onto the spool to create the neck of the fairy. Use your glue gun to perfectly center your fairy's head to the spool so that it doesn't look like a bobblehead.
Next up is your fairy's dress. Pretend you're playing that old daisy game and pull the petals off your silk flower until all you have is a pile of pretty petals. Most fabric flowers were created with a hot glue gun, so be careful not to rip the petals when you are gathering your dress materials.
Use scissors or wire cutters to cut a small slit in the base of the flower petal, then string along a 3-inch piece of pipe cleaner. Use about 8 to ten petals for best results. Wind the petal-covered wire around the neck of the clothespin and arrange the flower petals into a pretty dress construction. After tightening the wire, use your glue gun to flatten any unflattering petal tufts or lumps.
Cut a 2 by 2 1/2; inch piece of pipe cleaner for the fairy's arms and hands. String on the oval beads (or four 1/2; inch spools) to create the arms, then add an 8-millimeter bead on each end for the hands. Leave a little space between each oval bead and use your glue gun to fill in with glue (glue between the top of the clothespin and the 1/2 inch spool.) Cut off any extra pipe wire and use your glue gun to put a small bit of glue at the ends to seal the hands in place.
Now use your glue gun to glue flower petal fairy wings to the fairy's back. Next, put a swirl of hot glue on the crown of the doll's head and strategically add an attractive mane of doll hair using your glue gun. (If you can't find flowers, use your glue gun to add a festive doll straw hat or flower wreath). Last but not least, draw on your fairy's beautiful facial features using a thin black marker. Feel free to add a touch of color to her lips and cheeks.
We're sure your flower fairy will thank you for her gorgeous glue gun couture!
