Continuing with our 'Summer Crafting With The Kids' Series, we present the Foamy Squid!
Difficulty Level: Easy (perfect for kids 6 and up with adult supervision, especially around that hot glue gun)
What you will need:
- two sheets of craft foam in contrasting colors
- acrylic paint in various colors
- paint brushes, from medium to small
- scissors or craft knife
- pattern for head, body and arms
- hot glue gun and hot glue (low- or high-temp)
1. Make head, body and arm patterns and cut them out to form paper templates. Use these to draw the shapes on the foam sheets. Place them on the sheet and use a pen to draw around them. Be sure to cut out the correct number of arms for your squid (squid have 8 arms).
3. To glue the head together, hold the edges of the seam together between your fingers and lay a line of hot glue down along the length. You do not need very much. Allow this to cool before letting go.
4. Glue the seam of the body together the same way.
5. Run a line of glue along the edge of the body and place the head on. Gently push to make sure there is a good seam.
6. Mark out eight equal places along the base of the body and glue the legs on, one by one.
7. Glue the eyes on.
8. Now you are ready to paint your squid!
9. Once you are done painting and your paint is dry, cut a hole in the top fin of your squid and add string. You're done!

Make three or four foamy squid and place them on crossed dowels to create a foamy squid mobile or, if you have made last week's craft project, add both your foamy fish and your foamy squid to a foamy sea mobile!
