Glittery Princess Necklaces

In keeping with our Kid's Crafts theme this summer, we are going to show you today how to help your princess sparkle with her very own princess necklace!

Difficulty Level: Great for kids 8 years old and up with adult supervision around that glue gun!

Materials:
wax paper
glitter glue sticks
Glue gun

Instructions:

  1. Begin by loading your glue gun with the glitter glue stick that you have chosen for the 'jewels' for your necklace.
  2. Using your wax paper as a base, squeeze out small puddles of 'jewel' glitter so that they are nice round dots. Allow these to cool completely (2 minutes or so).
  3. Remove the 'jewel' glitter stick and insert the silver or gold glitter stick. You may have to 'purge' the remaining glue with plain hot glue sticks first.
  4. Again, using your wax paper as a base, squeeze out small puddles of silver or gold glitter glue and gentle press the 'jewels' you previously made into them so that they well up over the sides and make 'settings' for your 'jewels'.
  5. All the glue to harden completely (about 3 minutes)!
  6. Using the silver or gold glitter glue, draw a line of glue in a circle on the paper, big enough to go around your neck. Do not close the circle!
  7. On one end of the circle, form a hook. On the other end, form a loop. These will be your necklace clasp.
  8. Once the necklace string is cool, place dots of glue in the places you want to hang your previously made jewels from. Gently slide your jewel settings up so that they contact with the dots.
  9. Allow every thing to cool (wait another 2 minutes!)
  10. Remove from the wax paper and dress up your princess!
The 'jewel' dots, formed on the wax paper. The silver setting just before the jewels are pushed into it.
The finished jewel setting. The hook and loop that will close the necklace in back.

This activity would be especially suited to a little girl's themed birthday party. These necklaces are sturdy and if they break, just glue them back together!

You can also make bracelets and rings using the same methods. Experiment with different colors of glitter glue for different jewels!
