More Glittery Jewelry Treasure!

In keeping with our Kid's Crafts theme this summer, we are going to continue today with more hot glue jewelry! For little pirates or princesses, these easy-to-make hot glue jewels are sturdy and inexpensive!

Difficulty Level: Great for kids 8 years old and up with adult supervision around that glue gun!

Materials:
wax paper
glitter glue sticks
Glue gun

Instructions:

  1. Begin by loading your glue gun with the glitter glue stick that you have chosen for the 'jewels'.
  2. Using your wax paper as a base, squeeze out small puddles of 'jewel' glitter so that they are nice round dots. Allow these to cool completely (2 minutes or so).
  3. Remove the 'jewel' glitter stick and insert the silver or gold glitter stick. You may have to 'purge' the remaining glue with plain hot glue sticks first.
  4. Again, using your wax paper as a base, squeeze out small puddles of silver or gold glitter glue and gentle press the 'jewels' you previously made into them so that they well up over the sides and make 'settings' for your 'jewels'.
  5. All the glue to harden completely (about 3 minutes)!
  6. Using the silver or gold glitter glue, draw lines and swirls with your glue gune. You can feel free to build these up into elaborate settings. These will be the bracelet circles and ring circles. To make sure you get a line long enough to encircle a wrist or finger, use a paper template and measure then put this under the wax paper and lay glue down on top of it.
  7. Experiment with settings, and add jewels to pieces. But be sure to allow every thing to cool (wait another 2 minutes!) before gluing them together.

The 'jewels' in their silver settings, just waiting to be added to rings and bracelets! A bracelet and a ring.
Fancy jewel settings. Experiment with different 'jewel' sizes!

This activity would be especially suited to a princess or pirate themed birthday party. These jewels are very are sturdy and if they break, just glue them back together!

These make fantastic take-me-home items for party bags and they are inexpensive and fun for kids to help make.
