This week, I talked my Japanese friend into doing a craft demo for us. Enjoy!
You see nice glossy paper in many magazines, and you wonder how you can use those colorful pages. Well, you can make a Japanese paper doll. It's very simple.
Materials:
Glossy magazine paper and/or origami, chiyo-gami (Japanese patterned paper)
Cardboard
Glue Gun
Craft scissors and craft knife
A penny
1. Cut a cardboard rectangle about 1 inch wide.
2. Trim the 2 corners: See Picture A..

3. Wrap a piece of white paper around a penny. It will be the head of the doll.
4. Cut three pieces of paper, all of different colors, about 3 times wider than cardboard width, and layer them: See Picture B.

5. Fold up the bottom of the paper around the cardboard and glue it on.
6. Fold the top corner diagonally, and then fold the rest of the right side paper around the cardboard. See Picture C.

7. Do the same thing on the left side, but make sure the paper will fully cover the cardboard. Now the paper should look like a kimono.
8. Cut the paper in a rectangle, and glue it onto the middle of the doll. See Picture D.

9. Cut a different color paper into a narrow rectangle and glue it on top and in the center of the rectangle. Step 8.
10. Glue a penny covered with white paper, on top of the cardboard.
11. Wrap black paper around half of the face and fold the rest of the paper down. See Picture F.

12. Fold and glue the top corner of the head. Also, you can create any kind of hair style you would like. See Picture G.

10 .Glue a couple of beads on the head as a hair pin.

Now you have a Japanese paper doll. You can glue it on a magnet or on a special card, or display it in your home.
