As a huge national chain of stores, Jo Ann's has done well for its' self in terms of consistency across stores, selection and employee know-how. Each time I have ever set foot in a Jo Ann's be it west or east coast, the employees consistently knew the stock and layout of the stores and the in particular the cutting counter for fabric, was where I received the best service. The only drawback has ever been on Black Friday, but you're kinda asking for that since there isn't a store in town without a line that wraps around the store. Once in a great while I encounter the high school student who flipped a coin between jobs at Best Buy and Jo Ann's but those few shouldn't taint the overall view of the stores.
Their website is certainly an overwhelming site to be reckoned with. The sheer selection of it is massive, though it is well organized throughout. Categories and subcategories with even further categories is reminiscent of Etsy and we all heart Etsy.
The search features seems to be a little lacking, as I tried several searches only to be told there were no product matching my description. First search was for "Deco Art" a popular brand of paints and other crafting supplies with a space. When I searched on "liquid rainbow" the DecoArt Liquid Rainbow paint came right up, including "DecoArt" in the product headline. Meaning that the search couldn't recognize spaces.
I also searched for "sculpy primo" "sculpyprimo" and "sculpy" with no results, yet I found under the Clay category the product "Sculpy III".
The good news is because of the organization, it wasn't hard to find those items anyway, despite the search bugs. The prices online are more than fair, but to qualify for any free shipping you have to belong the Free Shipping Club, which is technically free, but you have to order at least 3 times and the orders must exceed $35 to be a member of this club. Then the free shipping starts.
Bottom line, the site is worth a look through, but if you can, go to the physical store. It's more fun browsing through all those aisles anyway!
