Materials:
Glue gun/ clear glue sticks
Pom pom bird kit
-Or-
Create your own:
3 colored pom poms (same color, or all different) preferably shiny ones in 3 different sizes. Gradual sizes like a snowman.
Very small piece of craft foam for the beak
2 small google eyes
Yellow pipe cleaner for feet
Sheet of thin plastic, colored (or real feathers)
1. If you're using the kit, pull out all your pieces and start by gluing the body pieces together, largest to smallest.
2. Next cut out the feathers from the thin plastic sheets and attach to the bird as needed, starting with the tail feathers, then the wings.
3. Cut the beak out using the pattern and glue to the center of the smallest pom pom.
4. Glue the google eyes above and on either side of the beak.
5. Bend the two pieces of pipe cleaner into 3 toe foot shape, leaving about 1/4 inch of a stem for the leg.
6. Glue the leg pieces to the bottom of the largest pom pom. Be sure to check the balance of the bird out first before gluing the feet on. See if where you glue the feet on causes the bird to tip forward, backward or sideway
That's it!
If you're not using the kits, the same directions apply, you'll just need these edits:
Feathers: You'll need 4 tail feathers and 2 wing feathers but with 3 rounded points. Create a pattern out of cardstock or white paper first, the tail feathers should be about 3 inches in length and 1/4 of an inch width, starting slightly smaller at the base, expanding and then tapering into a rounded end. Cut 4 of those.
For the side wings, 2 inches in length at the longest point and 3/4inch at the widest point, 1/4 of an inch at the base. You'll need to draw from the base outward into 3 rounded prongs to create the feather effect.
An alternative to this would be to get some real feathers at the craft store and use those instead!
Beak: Cut two very small bean like shaped pieces, less than 1/2inch in length.
Feet: take one regular size pipe cleaner, cut in two and create one foot from each piece.
