I drooled a little when I saw this inspired pincushion craft idea by Siamkatze (of Cut Out and Keep). It's surprisingly quick and easy - and looks good enough to eat. Don't worry if your baking skills aren't up to par. You won't have to deal with frosting, burning, or mixing up ingredients here. In fact, you probably have everything you need just sitting around.

In the very early stages, it doesn't look like much, does it? But then, what cupcake does?
The Ingredients
The only secret ingredient here is the plastic base - it's made with a fruit or applesauce cup. You know, the ones that usually come in packs of 6, wrapped in some cardboard? You'll also need a large square of fabric, something to stuff with, and a few other odds and ends. Time-wise, between 5 minutes and an hour should do it... depending on your attention *cough* (obsession) with detail.

Additional Uses for the Cupcake
When I see a fantastic craft like this, I start thinking about other applications for it. More bang for the buck, right? So In addition to being a pincushion, I also think they would work great as...
- Place card holders for a dinner party. Make up a whole batch, and place a single pin in each one, with a name card attached at the top.
- Food buffet descriptions, using the same technique described above.
- A cute Christmas tree ornament. Attach a ribbon or sturdy thread through the button on the top and make a loop to hang on the tree.
Taking it a step further
With minor adjustments to the method described by Siamkatze, I imagine you could also make...
- A paper weight; fill the sauce cup with something heavy like marbles or stones
- A small treasure cup; keep the sauce cup hollow, and fit a small wooden disc that will act as both a lid, and a base for the cupcake stuffing.
