Bachelorette Party Sash

A couple of friends of mine got married recently and one of them saw a sash on Etsy for $50 for bachelorette parties that goes way beyond the generic kind picked up at party stores. While it was very nice and all, Craftzilla can do better and for less. So check out how to make your own bachelorette party sash from scratch!

Materials
1 1/2 yards white satin-y fabric
1/4 yard 3inch wide white ribbon
black sticker lettering
polyurethane gloss varnish
1/4 yard colored synthetic fabric for flowers
thread
embellishments- feathers, buttons, jewels, silk flowers, glitter, silk green leaves

  1. Take the 1/4 yard piece of 3inch white ribbon and place the desired lettering in the center, "Bachelorette" or "Bride" or "Bridezilla" are all acceptable.

  3. Lightly brush the polyurethane varnish over the letters and leave to dry. This will keep the letters from coming off or peeling off during the night.

  5. Depending on if you got 45 or 60 inch fabric (probably 45) you might have have a seam on the back of the sash for two pieces being sewed together. I recommended this because buying 3 yards whole and only cutting off 6 inches off the bottom seemed excessive. Lay your fabric out on the floor or table.

  7. Cut two pieces, 40-45 inches long, depending on the width and buxomness of your bride. Pieces need to be at least 6 inches wide.

  8. Turn the fabric wrong side out and stitch up the sides and ends on both pieces, leaving a 1 inch hole at one of the ends- so you can turn them rightside out. Repeat.

  9. Turn both pieces right side out and stitch the 3inch wide ribbon with lettering to the center of one of the pieces.

  11. Stitch the two ends of the sash together, this will be the bottom of the sash. Baste up the open 1 inch holes

  13. Gather up one of the remaining ends and hand stitch into a ruffle and repeat with the other side. Stitch the two ends together. This should give you a nice ruffled edge for the top of the sash that rests on the shoulder.

  15. Now we get to do some fun stuff! Embellishments. If you got a feather boa, heat up your hot glue gun and put a clear glue stick in.

  16. Start at the bottom and draw a 3inch line of hot glue and gently press the center of the boa in it and repeat until to the top of the sash, trim off excess.

  17. Attach any silk flowers or jewels to the end or shoulder as desired.

  18. Take the 1/4 yard of synthetic fabric and follow DuhBe's tutorial on creating fabulous fabric roses.

  20. Hand stitch roses onto the the sash. Keep in mind that when using these, go with odd numbers. Even will make the sash look heavy or overdone, but 2 at the bottom and one at the top or vice versa will be more visually appealing.

That's it! Your bride is now ready for a night of fun in classy style! Other brides will be jealous, especially when you brandish an extra safety pin that you brought along to help secure the sash in place on the bride!
